Mondays: Fast Ride to Yolo/Woodland (or Capay)

Ed Martin Series: Weekday Mornings, Rides

Start your week off with a brisk ride north to either Yolo and Woodland, or a slightly longer ride northwest out to Capay.

Ride description for Yolo/Woodland

This is the 35-mile alternative ride on Monday mornings if the faster group decides that they’d rather not to go all the way out to Capay.

The route heads out north and west (29, 99, 27, 95, 22, 94B) and then turns east towards the very small hamlet of Yolo. From there we head south to Woodland and stop for refueling at Common Grounds (3rd & Main). We return to Davis via Co Rd 99.

Ride description for the Capay out and back

This brisk-paced 55-mile ride zigzags north and west towards the tiny hamlet of Capay. If you need brain exercise, try memorizing the sequence of roads we travel: 29, 99, 27, 95, 22, 94B, 20, 92C, 19, 87, 16, 85. Or just relax and enjoy the scenery, which is varied and consistently beautiful at any time of year.

In Capay, we stop for refreshments at the Road Trip Bar & Grill. The food is tasty and reasonably priced. We park our bikes in the rear where we can watch them at all times. The route for the return leg generally follows the Davis Double Century route. (85B, 23, 86A, 25, 87, 26, 88, 27, 95, 29–>for those who mastered the first test of memory.)

We regroup as necessary to keep the ride together.

A note about ‘pace’: Although these rides are designated as P5, frequently there are riders in attendance who prefer cycling at a more moderate P4 pace. It is not uncommon for a group of P4-ers to form en route and stick together for the ride. Please don’t let the advertised P5 pace keep you from joining in.
