May 2022 Excellent Adventure is the Slough50.
Guest leader, Lance Buck, will take us on a tour of lesser-known gravel roads, levees and goat trails circumnavigating Woodland via Davis, Monument Hills, Yolo, the Fremont Weir Wildlife area and the hinterlands of southeastern Yolo County. This is a flat 50-mile route with a surprising amount of Yolo gravel – about 50% unpaved – plan to be surprised!
Though passable by road bikes with 28c+ tires, gravel bikes are recommended. (Remember to freshen up your sealant.)
Plan to be self-sufficient: there are almost no amenities on the route other than some fennel and almost-ripe blackberries.
Pace will be moderate to brisk; though we do try to keep the group together and assist each other, there is no obligation to wait. Please be sure you can manage 50 miles of rough terrain with stops to regroup, rest, and enjoy the camaraderie.
Start at 0800 on John Jones Road in Davis, just north of Starbucks.
