A good friend and a founder of the Davis Bike Club has passed away at the age of 95½ years old. Helen and her husband Lee, along with two close friends, opened B&L Bike Shop in 1964 in Woodland and then in Davis. They purchased Foy’s Bike Shop in Woodland in 1984.

Founding the Davis Bike Club was Helen’s idea, noting the established Cal Aggie Wheelmen bike club disbanded in the summer which was the best riding time in Davis. She was a founding director of the club, the only organized bike club in Yolo County for many years. They were strategic to attaining Peugeot sponsorship for the DBC Race Team, and the first race team in the U.S. to gain sponsorship. Helen’s support and influence to the City of Davis established the July 4th Criterium in 1976.

Helen, along with her husband Lee, were always there for the club and the people in it. They were beloved friends of the club as well as it’s members and will be dearly missed

Helen is survived by her children, Susan (Jeff) Kowes, Jan Taylor and Rod (Susan) Pool; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of life on Feb 16, 2024 at 2PM at Life Pointe Church, 1616 West St, Woodland, CA
