Sign up For the DBC Listserv

DBC has a moderated listserv typically used for discussing bike advocacy, selling / giving away old bike related stuff, seeking ride / route information, news or rider safety information relevant to club members or cyclists in general, or last minute club group rides that you might be interested in. When you sign up, you can select whether you would like all the emails as they are sent or as a daily digest (you might miss a last minute ride announcement if you select a digest)

Get on the DBC Listserv

To send and get messages on the DBC listserv, you need to subscribe using an email address you access, your name or nickname that will be displayed when you send a message to the list, and a password that you will create a password to change your preferences or remove yourself at some later time. You will select if you want a daily digest or to receive messages as they are sent.

When you click the Sign Up button above or below, you will get the following form to fill in. After you submit your subscription by clicking the Subscribe button on the form, you will be sent an email requesting confirmation. This is called an OPT IN and prevents others from gratuitously subscribing you. Check your SPAM folder if you do not receive it. This OPT IN is a safeguard to keep anyone from signing you up using your email. Once your OPT IN confirmation is received, your request will be sent to the list moderator to approve. You will be notified of the moderator’s decision by email.

Some Considerations

  • Based on current usage, you might get 0-2 message a week from the listserv. Some of these are discussions with people answering each other, so you might get a few reply comments for each when there is a post.
  • The listserv is NOT limited to DBC members. There are people on the listserv that are no longer club members or never were club members; maybe they’ve moved away, no longer ride, or did an event ride with DBC and want to still stay in touch with the club.
  • The member list of the DBC listserv is hidden – the list of members is available only to the list administrator, but keep in mind that everyone on the list can see your email address if you reply. You may want to use a different email address when you subscribe (or edit your preferences and change the email address you use for the listserv) rather than what you use for banking or financial accounts – this will minimize any chance of phishing emails. If you do use another account, use one that you check regularly if you want to see the content in a timely manner.
  • Watch for SPAM. Posts and subscriptions are moderated by a DBC member, so SPAM posts can me removed when they are identified. That said, people sometimes include a picture of something they are selling, or a link to something that is supposed to be bike related. Still, be cautious and check suspicious links before you click. VirusTotal is a website where you can check a link for malicious content.

Change your preferences

There are detailed preferences that you can change by entering your email address that you signed up with and your password

After you sign in, you will get a number of options – change your email address or name displayed, change your password, get a copy of the post each time you submit, get confirmation you submitted a post, turn off the listserv if you go away for an extended time, change to a daily digest or not, etc.
