2024 Helen Pool 4th of July Criterium

It’s BACK!

Register now for the popular 4th of July criterium which returns for 2024 after a 4 year absence!

We are presenting a new exciting figure 8 course in downtown Davis, with start and finish on 3rd St between E and F St), in front of the old B&L Bike Shop. Streets on and alongside the course will be closed for traffic during the day. Races start at 8 am and the last race ends at 6:10 pm

There will be podiums with medals and prices for all races. See our flier for the full schedule of events

This year’s 4th of July criterium edition is in honor of Helen Pool, who owned bike shops in Woodland and Davis (in Davis the B&L shop where the start and finish are and Foy’s Bike Shop in Woodland) and who was important to the entire bike community dedicating much of her time to serve the community. We named the criterium after her to honor her lifelong commitment to the bicycle world and the Davis community. Helen Pool passed away earlier this year at the age of 95

Then we have more exciting news

There will be an special program between 12 and 1 pm, with a kids race (10 mins) and Vintage Bike Race (20 mins). These races will be held as a fundraiser for Julina (Juny) Gow-Smith, the UCD student and member of the UCD Cycling Team who was seriously injured on a bike ride earlier in 2024, and is still recovering from her injuries. All proceeds of these two races will go towards Juny’s recovery. We are asking racers for these two special events to wear their festive 4th of July outfit or a vintage/retro outfit.

Register for the kids race and vintage bike race on the day of the event before 12pm. We hope to welcome many of you participating in one of these two special events.

Any questions regarding the crit or this special fundraiser event, please contact the race director at race-team@davisbikeclub.org

We hope to see you all out there on July 4th!
