Bruce Dewey

Our dear friend, riding companion and many time club tour organizer Bruce Dewey passed away on March 20 at the age of 86, due to complications from an injury sustained while cycling in February.

Bruce and and his wife Marilyn moved to Davis in 2002 upon his retirement from the position of Professor and Assistant Dean at the University of Wyoming College of Engineering. In addition to bicycling, Bruce’s activities included hiking, skiing and music. He and Marilyn included bicycling as a part of their daily lives and were known to friends and family for their many bicycling trips throughout the world. They found a home with Davis Bike Club years before choosing Davis as their retirement community.

Bruce and Marilyn were presented with the Davis Bike Club Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 for their time and dedication to the Davis cycling community. Bruce was most known to the bike club for his contribution as Tour Director, where he planned and led over 25 tours throughout the US, Canada and western Europe. He and Marilyn set a high standard for tour planning on par with tour companies that would charge much more for comparable arrangements. Their tour itineraries typically included stays at several hotels along a route. They were expert at finding the best deals and researching tour routes and amenities.

The photos on this page show some of the wonderful destinations and fun times of their tours with DBC.
